The inside of Via Triumphalis' Necropolis

VIA TRIUMPHALIS, A NECROPOLIS FULL OF LIFE

The newly-opened Necropolis of Via Triumphalis, which now can be entered by Risorgimento Square, is a one-of-a-kind extended archaeological site in the heart of Rome.

This underground area gives testimony to an Ancient Roman middle-low class and its varied life, which was nothing we could ever imagine. In fact, thanks to the Via Triumphalis we can clearly sense and understand how the simpler population used to experience everyday life in Ancient Rome.

The finely carved coffins interchange themselves with statues, stuccoes, mosaics, frescos, and bas-reliefs decorated with inscriptions, giving us a true insight into this ancient class’ culture and traditions.
