The Secret of Rome

In the Aventino Hill, there is a square that hides the secret of the city: Piazza dei Cavalieri di Malta, where it is possible to see an ancient door, the entrance of the Villa del Priorato di Malta.

If you peak trough the keyhole of this door you can discover an incredible view: Saint Peter’s Dome framed by the trees and hedges of the eighteenth century garden of the Priorato.
The keyhole is not a result of chance but it is an idea of the architect Giovanni Battista Pirenesi who in 1765 was commissioned to renovate the entrance of the Villa.
In order to add value to this entrance, the architect created this small square, decorating it with obelisks and war trophies.

Today the curiosity to discover this secret catches the attention of many visitors of the city.
