ST. PETER BASILICA, WHERE DEATH BECOMES ART
Under the St. Peter Basilica rest in peace different Popes. Obviously, the most famous one is St. Peter itself. But a lot of people don’t know that all graves are true pieces of art. Despite some of the tombs seem to be works from the Baroque period, they are way older. For example, the tomb of Alexander VII represents a skeleton writing the fate of the human being with an hourglass by his side. This is one of the last works of Gian Lorenzo Bernini, who decorated the grave with 4 statues representing Justice, Truth, Prudence, and Chastity around the Pope sitting on a recess.
