VATICAN MUSEUMS, MORE THAN MEETS THE EYES

Ever wondered just how vast the Vatican Museums truly are? We’re talking about an incredible journey through over 2,000 years of history, art, and culture, spread across a staggering 7 kilometers of galleries, chapels, and rooms! That’s right, if you were to walk through every single corridor, you’d be looking at a nearly 8-mile trek. We are talking about 54 Museums with more than 20,000 art pieces and 1,400 rooms, chapels, and galleries to be visited and enjoyed.
It’s so immense, it’s often said that if you spent just one minute looking at every single artwork, it would take you 12 years to see everything!

But there’s more to these incredible museums than just sheer size. Did you know that the famous Vatican spiral staircase, designed by Giuseppe Momo in 1932, is actually two intertwined staircases, allowing people to go both up and down simultaneously without ever meeting? It’s a true architectural marvel! And here’s another fascinating tidbit: many of the “tapestries” you see in the Gallery of Tapestries were actually designed by Raphael and woven in Brussels in the 16th century, specifically for the Sistine Chapel, before being moved to their current location!
