THE PALATINE HILL, WHERE ROME WAS BORN
In Rome, there is an actual mythological place. The Palatine Hill is a worldwide landmark. This place is so important because, according to the legends, here Romulus and Remus founded Rome in 753 BC. They decided to found the Eternal City here to pay tribute to their saviour: a shepherd called Faustolo found the infants inside the Lupercale Cave (the place where the She Wolf took care of the kids) and, together with his wife Acca Larentia, raised the children. Today, on the site where the House Romuli was founded, there is the House of Augustus, a monumental complex where the emperor stayed when in Rome. Later on, excavations in 1946 actually found remains of Iron Age huts at this site, fully confirming the legendary tradition.
